Kenya National Archives

Kenya National Archives and Documentation Services is located on Moi Avenue, near the Ambassadeur Hotel, on the outskirts of Nairobi’s central business center. The archives overlook the historic Hilton Hotel, with Tom Mboya Street on the other side. It was founded in the year 1965. It has a capacity of 40,000 books. It was founded in 1965 by an Act of the Kenyan Parliament and is overseen by the Deputy President and also the Minister of Home Affairs. The Vice-Office President’s and the State Department for National Heritage and Culture are currently in charge of it. The Murumbi Gallery, which showcases African antiquities collected in the nineteenth century, is also housed in the Kenya National Archives building.

Murumbi Gallery is a contemporary art gallery in Murumbi,
The gallery is named after Joseph Murumbi, Kenya’s second vice president. It is on the ground floor of the Kenya National Archives building. It is currently Africa’s most extensive Pan-African art gallery, with ancient art collections from various African areas and communities. The Kenyan government purchased the antiquities after a concessionary agreement was reached with Joseph Murumbi. He had previously rejected multiple large offers to buy his collections from international bidders.
